Judy Onghai

Entrepreneur, Co-Founder and VP of Social Analytics of AppAddictive, a social media start-up company and a Director of Finance and Administration of Looksmart Group Inc. and Clickable Inc.


Judy earned her Ph.D. in Educational Psychology & Technology from the University of California Los Angeles, where she received the UCLA Graduate Student Full Fellowship Award, Graduate Student Research Assistantship Award, & graduated with honors. She also holds a Master of Education degree in Clinical & Counseling Psychology from Columbia University, where she was awarded the Columbia University Full Scholarship & Columbia University Teaching Assistantship. She graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelors of Arts in Psychology (Accelerated Program) at De La Salle University
. As an educator, Judy was a college professor of psychology and statistics courses at graduate and undergraduate levels. She was also a teaching assistant at the Department of Psychology at Columbia University in New York. As an entrepreneur, Judy co-founded a social media start-up company with Michael Onghai (CEO of Looksmart Group Inc. and Clickable Inc.). In addition, Judy has an extensive assessment background having worked in the industry for more than 20 years in the largest assessment companies in the world. She served as a Director of College Board and Consulting Clinical and Educational Psychologist for Educational Testing Service (ETS) on high-stakes testing such as SAT, PSAT, AP, GRE, TOEFL, and Praxis, She also served as the Disability Expert for testing accommodations on the high stakes tests. As Director of the Services for Students with Disabilities Program at the College Board (CB), Judy also provided direction and management of a $5 million program, provided technical consultation & training to stakeholders, developed business plans, oversaw vendor management & contract negotiations, supervised a team of 12 staff members, consultants & interns, managed the program’s operations, quality assurance & content development, and served as a key resource disabilities expert at the regional and national levels. Finally, Judy has worked as a Manager of Research & Product Development at Kaplan Educational Company. She designed and developed online educational and psychological assessment products, acted as a project manager of web-based educational product development, and managed and designed research projects to evaluate web-based assessments.(e.g., motivation, personality, learning styles, and the like). She also designed and provided online counseling platforms for customers mainly parents. Also did project management for the creation and development of web-based products including needs assessment, design, content development, beta testing, product evaluation or assessment (formative and summative). Further, she was an expert advice for educational and parenting magazines. Judy has also done extensive work in research and development. She was awarded several federal grants such as Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) of The National Science Foundation (NSF), U.S. Dept. of Education, totaling $1.5 M for developing online educational tools using metacognition, cognitive-behavioral & motivational principles to increase academic performance. She designs behavioral/psychological research and analyze large data-sets. She identifies meaningful patterns in data and relate evidence to underlying psychological or sociological motivations in consumer behavior. Serve as the day-to-day contact for key strategic advertiser relationships as they pertain to measurement and data-driven methodologies/tools. Judy’s passion is leveraging the profit and non-profit organizations, public-private partnerships where business can serve a social good. Judy’s expertise lies on research and development, product development, motivation assessments, standardized assessments and testing (IQ, achievement, personality), educational technology, online learning, disabilities, learning disabilities, ADHD, emotional & behavioral problems, testing accommodations for high stakes tests – SAT, PSAT, AP exams, GRE, TOEFL, metacognition, cognitive-behavioral techniques, motivation, behavioral economics.

Mike Onghai, CFA is a successful investor, entrepreneur and business operator. He has been involved in the internet industry for 22 years. As the 3rd employee of GeoCities, Mike Onghai made a significant profit when GeoCities was bought by Yahoo for $3.5 billion in 1999. After that, Mike became an investment manager for a family office in New York City and learned the ropes of hedge fund management, private equity buyouts and distressed investing. Later on, Mike branched out to angel investing. Mike took over LookSmart as the anchor company of his internet company portfolio. Mike sits on the board of MGT Capital, a company whose CEO is noted Cybersecurity expert John Mcafee. Mike is a graduate of UCLA with a double degree in B.S. Computer Science and Engineering.
